Default Yes and no...

Ego sells -- or at least they used to; I don't know if the current owners still sell it -- a supplemental battery pack that sits on the floorboard right underneath your seat that will increase your mileage by 50%.

If you replaced the batteries with lighter-weight batteries, you would get more mileage, but you would probably have to charge the batteries externally with a different charger instead of the on-board charger.

You can't increase the speed very much without replacing the motor. With that, you run into issues such as finding a motor to fit into the space the Ego motor sits in, making sure that everything works together, etc. You *can* get a speed gear that will make it go faster at the expense of power (read: you probably will not be able to go up inclines well if you put the speed gear on. I actually bought a power gear to give it more power at the expense of mileage, but I was only using it for 3-4-mile round trips, so it was never a problem.) If you want something noticeably faster, you probably should look into a full-bore moped-type machine that was built to go faster in the first place.

As far as range, I used to LOVE doing jack-rabbit starts when I started, because it was so much fun, but I found that if I treated my throttle gently, I could go farther. As with any electric, the rated "Up to XX miles" rating means how far you can go holding the throttle steady at the mid-range speed that is the most efficient, and in real-life applications, a good rule of thumb is to expect half the rated mileage.
