I am in the market for one of the Lance Milan 150's. I live in Northern California and found that the local Red Bluff Yamaha dealer has taken on the dealership for Lance. I drove the 50 miles to see the bike and give my opinion. I currently own a 2003 Honda ST1300 and also have a Honda AirBlade 125 and Yamaha Fino 115cc, both scooters are in my house in Thailand. So I think I can speak from experience.
First of all, the Lance is CLEARLY manufactured with cheaper parts, fit and finish, and inferior engine. But that is why the price is nearly half of scooters in its class by major manufactures like Honda and Yamaha. So, if you're looking for quaility as the prerequisite for purchasing, then don't look at a Lance. Now, if you are looking for cheap transportation to battle $4.50/gal gas, and you are not intending the scooter to be your only mode of getting around (ie: you own a car) then this might be the way to go. Living in a metro area allows me to duck into a shop if I have problems. In fact, the Yamaha dealer in Red Bluff is banking their reputation on these bikes...and they are a authorized service center, too!! That is a huge plus! The storage on the scooter is more than adequate. The front 'glove' compartment is small, and I'm not crazy that the hinges allow huge holes around them for small items to fall through. I suggest keeping larger items in there. Under the seat is a nice compartment that can even hold a 1/2 helmet, a bag of groceries or a small chihuahua (just kidding, don't put your dog in there!). The seat hinge was flimsy and I can see that a little blunt force and it will bend easily. The seat material is NYLON and breaths. Won't fade, crack or rip like vinyl over time in the sun. The bike has disc brakes in front and rear. ABS, too! Something you won't find on name brand bikes. The whole bike is DOT approved and C.A.R.B. approved for all 50 states. Smooth ride and lots of room with two-up (you plus passenger). Compared to my Yamaha Fino in Thailand (115cc) it does okay, but the Yamaha is smoother and more reliable. For $1899 you can't go wrong. You will save money, and even if you had to do repairs, you'd still be ahead of the money curve. And resale value will do well as gas approaches $6.00! I say its a 6 out of 10 for quality, comfort and value. Its a 10 for style. Happy Trails and Ride Safe! Johnny |
