Default Has anyone had this problem?

I recently bought the Lance Vintage 150 off a craigslist guy for $700 which looked like a good deal but the catch was it sputters when it gets to 35 mph. I figured I could clean the carb and everything would be good.

Well, I've taken the carb completely off and it looks fine. The jets aren't clogged. I've taken the vacuum fuel pump off and put it back together and it seems fine. The spark plug has quite a bit of carbon on it but there really is no way to change the mixture, seems that its pre-conditioned. The fuel filter has been changed recently and the bike has about 4,000 miles on it.

The symptoms:

Once I hit 35 mph on a steady throttle it starts to lurch back, and looses power for a brief second then comes back on and repeats.

If you really get on it from the start it will bog down and repeat.

The bike idles well and has a strong pick up at low speeds.

I can't figure it out. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Cool Check the basics

First: replace the plug for a new one and make sure the gap is correct.
Second: replace the in line fuel filter.
Third: check all the wire connections on the ignition system for tight
connections.
Good Luck

This problem sounds to be fuel starvation. My guess is either a kink in the fule delivery line or dirt in the filter. Check your fuel line to ensure it is not kinked.

I am a dealer for Lance, For all you folks who bought a Lance scooter online, the issues you face are because you are not a mechanic. Lance has ceased supplying scooters to online vendors because there were just too many people gating a box off a truck who had no idea what to do to check out the systems before it is ready to ride. My PDI (pre delivery inspection) process can take up to three hours before a scooter is ready for a customer. This includes a full nut and bolt check, brake bleed, change transmission and engine oils, check fuel lines, bed in the front disc brake and many more checks.

Since I have a 1,000 square foot workshop equipped with all the right tools for the job, I can get a scooter ready in that time. If you do not have the tools and the knowhow it can take a lot longer.

I charge a customer $120 for PDI. It is worth every penny and I stand behind my work and the product.

We are an authorized Lance dealer at San Francisco. If those tips does not work above posted by others, it could be the CDI. Let me know sf.motoretta@gmail.com. Send me your Lance VIN# and Engine #. We'll send you the parts if it's still under warranty.

Thumbs up

Had the same issue... Took the scoot to four repair shops before finding the fuel pump was bad from the factory. I was very relieved to find the problem as I was becoming very frustrated and was near giving up.

Replace the fuel pump.

Best regard.
