Lance Vintage Gear Oil
Thought I would take a minute to answer the gear lube question and comment on mine and my wife's experience with her 2008 Lance Vintage 150. The gear oil for the final drive is standard automotive 80w80. According to the dealer I bought my wife's Lance from, great guys and has an excellent scooter tech on staff, you can also use the synthetic 75w90. Now, about our experience. I bought her the scooter in October 2008 with2 miles. It ran great from the moment we got it. Changed the oil at 300 miles. Started getting VERY difficult to start. Took it to the shop. The valves had tightened up. Tech adjusted valves and carb. Charged me 1 hour labor. Scooter has run great. My wife and I ride a lot. Scooter had 900 miles on it when we got it out at the beginning of May. It has 2400 now. Just starting to get hard to start. The tech was kind enough to tell me what the recommended valve lash is for these. I'll adjust them this weekend. One more thing of note. The drive belt totally disintegrated two days ago. According to the tech. The rubber components the Chinese use are inferior. He is installing a new Gates brand drive belt. I will be keeping one on hand going forward so I can change if it breaks on the road again. we were 40 or so miles from home when it disintegrated. Other than that the scooter has been EVERYTHING my wife and I hoped it would be. we live in the middle of nowhere so rides for us mean country roads. she can do 50 MPH all day without a problem. I follow on my Suzuki.
