Links In

(A.K.A. Backlinks, Inbound Links, etc...)

First, a general overview of what a "Link In" is and why it's important.  Search engine spiders use links, among many other things, to determine the 'relevance' of a web page in relation to 'keywords'.  This calculated relevance is used to determine how high to place that web page within search results for a certain keyword.

Link Exchanges 

(A.K.A. Reciprical Links) 

A popular method to increase "links in" is by exchanging simple text links with ther websites.  Many webmasters have setup a "Links" page that they will link to your website's main page if you place a reciprical link back to them from your "Links" page.  While this is a popular method used, it is a low quality link in... medium quality at best.

The important factors when determining the "Quality" of a link in is:

1. Relevant Keywords
2. Relevant Pages
3. Relevant Link Position

Relevant Keywords

Every website has a set of keywords and keyword phases that it tries to emphasize in order to get to the top of those keyword searches.  While you can optimize your own website for these keywords all day long, you'll receive the biggest boost to your keyword relevance when other relevant web pages link to your site using those keywords and phases within the text of the link.

Relevant Pages

Search engines also look at the page where link comes from and measures the relevance of the keywords.  If the link is coming from a "Links" page, it won't be as relevant as a link coming from a page dedicated to that keyword.  It's also important that the link point to a web page within your site that is the most relevant for that keyword and not just your main page.

Relevant Link Position

Where the link is located in a page also determines how relevant it is.  If the link appears in the top 20 links on a page, it will score better than a link buried on a page with 100 links appearing before it.  This concept can get very complicated, as duplicate links aren't counted, blocked links aren't counted, and the overall score a web page also determines how many links the crawlers pay attention to.  In general though, it is a bad practice to have your entire site map located at the bottom of every page.

Taking the above principals into account, our link exchange maximizes each element of a quality link in order to make the most of our exchange and would be considered a "Deep Link" exchange.  There are two ways you can participate in the link exchange program.

2. 1 for 1 (Optional)
   

Main Page + 2/Products

This simply means, you place a link on your main page to SW, and in return you will receive listings for each product in the directory you sell.

The  "+2" are two additional hidden links to directory categories.  These will be determined after your site is reviewed.

In addition to the required exchange, you have the option of additional deep link exchanges on a 1 for 1 basis.  If you wish to have a listing on a Manufacturer or Category page, all you need to do is place a link to SW on your own equivalent pages.

This is also the way you can get your listings to the top of the product pages.  Listing priority is based on who provided the last referral.
